My name is Mina Wilk, EHWF’s resident wolf lady. I have wrestled in the indies for about two years all over the world. I’ve even been to prison on trumped-up charges. Ask me anything.
"What got you interested in wrestling?"
I know everyone says they were a fan all their lives, but I wasn't initially. I wanted to be a rock star actually. I can sing but can't play an instrument to save my life, and I would sing along to anything. Then somewhere around the early 2000s, I was at a friend's place and they had wrestling playing on TV and I thought it looked pretty cool. It was athletic rock and roll to me. That led me down a rabbit hole and that's where I became a fan.
"On your Twitter bio, you mention 'From Rikers to strikers'. Is there a story behind that?"
I did time for armed robbery. Really what happened was I got busted shoplifting with a knife on me. Was usually a model inmate, got time off for good behavior. I was in the women's wing at Rikers which was literal hell. It's where I started training and learning to fight.
"How did the green hair come about?"
In Rikers too, that's where the 'usually a model inmate' comes in because we weren't allowed to dye our hair and I would with Koolaid packets. I always liked the color green. I already had many of the tattoos I have now. I move to my own beat but I try to avoid harming others. And then ironically I become a wrestler.
"How did you get your break?"
One of my cellmates had a relative in the business and when I got out, first thing I did was dye my hair green properly because I was finally allowed. I met the dude, he liked my style, I got into a wrestling school and three months later, I had my first match. Which I lost in 14 seconds. I kept working at it, I'd pick up gigs in a few promotions, and I improved. I was hooked and wanted to be the best I can be.
"What's your favorite holiday?"
Halloween is the default answer, but truthfully I don't really celebrate most holidays. It's been just my mom and I for years. We'll do special stuff for the hell of it. Now, though, who knows? I've met some great family-oriented people recently and I feel really good about things.
"How did you meet Nate Nitro?"
I saw him on Mayhem and just thought he was really cool. Dude is jacked, and he has that no-nonsense approach to the business. I reached out to him on social media and I noticed he has this other side to him that made me want to know him more. Flew out to New Orleans where he was visiting family, who happens to be family with like my rock idols. I even name my finisher American Murder Log after them. Full disclosure, he's actually right here beside me. Yeah, I really like him, we hit it off immediately.
"Hardest match you've been in?"
Oh man, I think the scaffold match I did on a Japan tour about a year or so ago. I was one of only three gaijins on the tour but because of my Filipino roots, I wasn't treated poorly. Actually, they loved me. If you ever hear those stories about Japanese fans fawning over outsiders at like airports and stuff, yeah, that shit ACTUALLY happens. I won the scaffold match, and then stupid me being caught in the moment, I dived off the scaffold onto my opponent and the tables below. Broke my collarbone but so worth it.
"Other rock idols on your phone/Spotify/etc?"
Shit, of course Metallica. Disturbed are growing on me, Maiden, Megadeth, Rancid, Ramones. There's so much good music out there. I like pretty much anything that sounds rough and angry and dirty. It's a rush.
"How has Covid affected you?"
Well, until EHWF came along, I think the last time I wrestled was July. Outdoor gig, plenty of room, social distancing and what have you. Before that, early March. I earned my teaching certificate in prison so I became a teacher's assistant. Come summer, I just stayed in shape, stayed home, pretty boring time. But, you know, it had to be done. Our governor did a bang up job even if some people were idiots. And now we're in a second wave, it's going to be hell. Maybe even worse than the first wave and we haven't got ourselves under control yet as a country. I worry a lot about it.
"What's your fascination with wolves? And as The Wolf Lady, what kind of wolf would you consider yourself to be?"
What's not to love about wolves? They're nature's badasses! Wilk is my legit last name, which is Polish for wolf and I grew up studying them. There's nothing more beautiful than being out in the woods and hearing the wolves sing. I cry every time. It overwhelms me. As for kind of wolf, there's only red and grey, though the Grey's can go from white to black depending on the environment. So, yeah, grey wolf. Nate as well.
"Who are/were your role models?"
Mom, first and foremost. That woman's been through hell and is still standing. Music idols were Joan Jett and the Lacroix Sisters from AML. Wrestling idols? Stacy Jones, the Unbreakable. Amy Jo Smith for her longevity. And I'd even throw in Eavan Maloney who is just chaos on two legs. She's true rock and roll, man.
"Who would be your dream opponent?"
Oh fuck, that's a tough one because there are so many out there who I think I could mesh with. Refer to my wrestling idols for the easy answer. If we're talking EHWF though, obviously Ana Somnia who's holding the gold. Killer Carter would be a great opponent. Honestly I'd fight anyone on the roster just so I can prove myself.
"Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"
Professionally, World Champion. Either in EHWF or if I sign elsewhere. Just to be on the marquee and be the face of the company. Mina Greena running the roost. Personally, on lockdown with a ring on my finger. Not right away obviously, I just made Nate do a spit take saying that. LOL Sorry babe. Besides that, financially stable, healthy, all the good things in life.
"If you can impart some advice to young up and coming talent, what would it be?"
Actually, I'm going to say this to everybody, regardless of what you're doing in life. Never lose yourself, be the good in your world, don't settle, and always ALWAYS keep rocking.
