Savannah: "She thinks it's a joke, Chloe. Honestly, we all do. How could you blame us, though? You went from graduation in 6 months, to some crazy wrestling stunt, almost over night."
Chloe is barley listening, flipping the Cocktail menu back and forth, nodding here and there to give the impression that she actually gave a shit, trying to decide how to drown out this next hour of her life. Brunch was her favorite meal of the day, and of course, this is the meal they wanted to ruin.
Savannah: "This is your problem, Chlo. You just don't care about what we think. We're just trying to help, mom and I are really concerned that you're making a huge mistake."
Parker: "Are you still waiting on your third person? Or would you like to place your drink order?"
Chloe goffed and tossed her menu to the center of the table-
Chloe: "Ha, we'll die before this bitch shows up. I'll take a Pina Colada."
Savannah shakes her head, picks up her sisters menu, and takes a good glance at the waiter.
Parker: "And for you?" he asked, staring straight down Savannah's top.
Savannah: "A Dr. Pepper, please. I don't drink before noon."
The waiter chuckled, and moved his focus to the empty chair at the table.
Parker: "And you're sure the other guest is on the way?"
Savannah: "Yes, she just texted me. She should be here any minute."
She gave him a little smile, and he shut his ticket book. Before he could walk away, Savannah batted her eyes, reached out to touch his hand, and asked for his name.
Parker: "My name is Parker, I'll be your server for the remainder of your brunch."
He gave her a wink, and walked away.
Chloe tried her best not to blow up, but her patience was getting the best of her.
Chloe: "Really? You have to make a big deal out of me getting a beverage before noon. Are you kidding? Have you looked around to see where you are? There's ten other tables with more alcohol than I've had all morning. Just bat your stupid eyelashes, and shut your mouth." She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and then released. "Now, where is that lovely lady we just so happen to share as a parent..."
Savannah: "Say it a little louder, she just walked through the gate. Maybe she'll hear how rude you are behind her back."
Chloe hasn't seen her... mother... in person, in over 5 months. She could remember the day as if it just happen last night. So much glass in her apartment. She is still finding shards here and there.
Faith: "Savannah! Honey! Why are we meeting on this side of town? You know I can't stand these one-way... why is she here?" she asked as she caught Chloe trying to hide behind her menu. "You lied, you told me you wanted brunch with me. You set me up. You're supposed to be the example, Savannah."
Savannah got out of her chair, hugged her mother, and adjusted her collar. Chloe barley peeked over her menu, just in time to catch a glance of Faith glaring in her direction.
Savannah: "Mom, nice to see you. You remember your Middle Child, Chloe. Chloe, this is your mother. She gave birth to you. Play nice, you're only in public because Chloe's apartment couldn't take the damage again."
You could see in Faith's eyes she was going through a flash back. Neither of them had exactly been on their best behavior that night. She shook her self out of it, and redirected her attention to Savannah.
Faith: "Yes, I remember her. Hello, Chloe. Pleasure to see you again, I guess. Back in school? Starting in January? That's what this is about, right? You're telling me you're going to quit that silly 'sport', and go back to school?"
Chloe slammed her menu down, and as soon as she opened her mouth, Parker walked out.
Parker: "Ah, the final guest has arrived. Good morning ma'am, would you care for a drink?"
Parker sat Savannah and Chloe's drinks in their respective spots in front of the girls, and pulled out his Ticket book.
Faith pulled the third chair over to Savannah, swung her purse over her head, placed it around the back of her chair, and had a seat.
Faith: "Sure. I'll take a coffee, cream and sugar on the side, please."
Parker gave her a nod, and went to walk back towards the bar.
Faith: "Oh, and sweetheart. Please make sure it's real sugar, I'll know if you give me that rat poison."
Parker shook his head, and made his way back.
Chloe put her drink up to her lips, and took a small sip. Looking over the base, she could see her mother and sister staring at her. Drinking was frowned upon, and she liked to make things like that a habit. She took one more huge drink, and set the glass down.
Savannah: "Mom, we're here to calmly, and lovingly, tell Chloe that she's making a mistake, okay? Can we handle that?
Faith let out a huge sigh, looked down to her lap, and quietly whispered "Chlo, you're making a huge mistake."
Chloe: "Why? Why is it a mistake? Because I dropped out of Grad school 6 months before graduation to pursue something I've always wanted to do? Because I'm 'Throwing away a gift' that I never asked for? Because it doesn't make you look good to the country club? Haven't you already slept with enough people to basically guarantee yourself a spot, Faith? Why does what I choose to do affect you, at all? You kicked me out, threw all my shit in the trash, and convinced two of my professors that I was cheating. I failed both. Thanks to you. Did you know you're only allowed to fail two classes, all together, in Grad school? No? Oh, I forgot. I'm the only one in this god forsaken family that's made it this far. My bad."
Faith had tears in her eyes. Parker came back out with her coffee, but reading the situation, he set her cup in front of her, and walked away.
Savannah: "Chloe! You're bitch. Why can't you just be nice for once? She's just here because she cares!"
Chloe: "Lies! She doesn't care, neither of you care. You're just worried about how my life choices affect your appearance. This has nothing to do with my happiness, nothing to do with me at all."
Faith: "Chloe, you're so dramatic. Always trying to make everything all about you. Can't you see? We're just concerned. You threw away your whole degree, to get on a stage in a trashy outfit, and play with other little children. You never grew up. Grad school was just a joke to you. That's why your degree was so easy to walk away from. I mean, I'm sure all these other "wrestlers" you're going up against walked away from their internship at the best firm in L.A. Threw away thousands of dollars their families worked hard for. Am I right?"
Chloe shook her head. She knew there was no need in fighting. Faith would never see it her way. As far as she was concerned, Chloe would always be the one to blame. The Lawyer dream wasn't hers to begin with, just some facade Faith had conjured up. Probably to get some Joe-Schmoe to sign her up for some stupid class.
Chloe: "Whatever, Faith. I'm not fighting. I don't have time for this. In two hours I have a meeting with my new agent. I don't need your drama stressing me out. As far as I'm concerned, you've ruined my brunch."
Chloe grabbed her drink, ripped open her straw, stuck it all the way to the bottom, and sucked as hard as she could.
Faith: "Go ahead, chug away. That's all you've ever been good at, anyways. Chugging.
Savannah: "It's called 'swallowing', mom."
Savannah and Faith shared a laugh, as Chloe finished her beverage.
Faith: "Hey, maybe this will all work out in the end! I mean, she's going to be surrounded by men, right? You'll fit right in!
This might just be where you belong, Chlo. Surrounded by the opposite sex. Let's watch you sleep your way up here!"
Chloe was stirring the cherry in the left over slush at the bottom of her glass, smirking at the whole situation.
Parker: "Ladies, have we decided on a breakfast?
Chloe: "It's Brunch! Damn it! My favorite fucking meal of the day, and these cunts have ruined it. I don't care, give me whatever they're having."
Faith: "Best decision you've made in the past 6 months. You could stand to lose a little weight, anyways. Three Veggie Crepe plates, please. Holindaise sauce on the side."
Savannah: "Well. This didn't go quite as I was expecting."
