I'll admit. I'm not a fan of either of these men, but I followed a ton of MMA fighters and watched thousands of fights over the past decade, so I know the sport pretty well. I enjoy going back and watching old classics heavyweight fights and have always been a fan of Muhammad Ali.
I watched a ton of Connor McGregor fights. I watched enough of Floyd to understand why he's been immortal throughout his entire career.
When I heard that these two men were facing each other in a 'Boxing' match.. I already knew this was Floyd's fight to lose.
Sure, you can make the argument that Floyd is 40 and McGregor is only 29. In most cases, this would possess a huge advantage for the younger fighter, but not tonight.
McGregor is one of the best MMA fighters in the world, period. But let's face it. In boxing you're one dimensional and 90% of those other world class skills that he possesses are illegal in a boxing match. So I thought about it, and the fight went down pretty much how I envisioned it weeks before the fight.
McGregor doesn't fight to leave the decision in the hands of the judges. He's overly confident in every fight he goes into. He's not built to last an entire fight, and most of his victories end early. I knew that McGregor would come out of the gate hard, which is exactly what Floyd expected and planned for. Floyd is a defensive counter fighter, who fights to his strengths, and McGregor fell right into his trap.
McGregor punched himself out and Mayweather pounced on him by knocking him out in the 10th round. It's pretty cool to witness someone actually retiring at 50-0. I never thought it would happen, but it did. Congratulatons to Floyd 'Money' Mayweather. I don't think there will ever be another man or woman to ever accomplish what he's done, but it was cool that it happened during our lifetime. Okay, rant over. Feel free to comment!
