Sitting alone at a small table in the back of the wine bar of the Hotel Captain Hook in Anchorage, Alaska, the Anarchy General Manager Extraordinaire, still immaculately suited minus a tie, sips a brown liquid from a small glass. He relishes the taste of the room temperature cognac, his favorite alcoholic beverage, as he picks up his phone and types with one hand.
“She can be such a goddamn brat sometimes.”
Joshua Samson, Esquire shakes his head in a disapproving manner before placing the phone back down on the table. He takes another sip from his glass while motioning the waiter over to the table.
“I need two double Patron silvers and a blue Hawaiian chaser to the table pronto.”
The waiter nods and scurries off to complete the order. A few minutes later, Astrid Sedin appears in the doorway wearing black yoga pants and a loose-fitting shirt with Genie on it that read “I’m here! What are your other two wishes?” She doesn’t look too happy as she spots Joshua and makes her way over to the table.
“You rang?”
Like a gentleman, Joshua stands to his feet.
“Hopefully your attitude has changed in the elevator ride from the suite to here?”
“Well I am pretty upset… so what do you think the probability of that being is?”
She glared at him, arms folded across her chest.
“The fact that you told me to keep quiet and not fight… that hurt. Because if I keep quiet, then they’ll have won and will know that they’ve broken me.”
”Sit down, Astrid.”
He spoke matter-of-factly, very stern and strangely….fatherly. Astrid watched as the waiter brought over her drinks, grabbing the first double Patron and downing it without so much as a bat of an eyelash. Wiping her lips, she sits down and starts to twirl the straw around in her blue fruity drink.
“So why did you beckon me down here?”
Returning to his seat, he sips again at the cognac.
“So we can further discuss your barring from title matches and to get you out of the suite so you wouldn’t be sulking all night.”
“Well I’m probably going to end up doing it anyway because I’m stubborn as all hell.”
She took a slow sip of her drink, not making eye contact with Joshua.
“So go ahead… start discussing.”
”Well...um...since you’ve become my client have I ever led you wrong?”
“Not that I can recall. But I have taken quite a number of shots to the head… so maybe I have forgotten.”
”Of course I haven’t and I don’t plan on it anytime soon. So what makes you think I would be leading you wrong right now by telling you not to make a big fuss about it?”
“How can I not? My mission has been ripped away from me. If the roles were reversed, you can’t tell me that you wouldn’t be feeling the same way. But the part that really hurts… is that the words people have been saying… they’re starting to seem like their true and not just words.”
Her fingers gingerly danced around the top of the other double shot of tequila.
”Baby, what are you talking about? Does this have anything to do with Kelli’s attack on you after your match? I know there is a lot of talking going around that you’re supposedly scared of facing her but I didn’t think that would bother you in anyway...”
“No, that’s not it because I could never be afraid of that damn lunatic. No… that’s not what’s bothering me. It’s the fact that people say that all I am to you… is a pawn… not a queen… a pawn. And queen’s aren’t told to be silent. They’re outspoken women and don’t take anyone’s shit.”
In order to disguise a chuckle, Joshua takes a long sip of his drink.
”Asti, you know you’re no pawn to me. When have I EVER made you feel any less than my queen? We talked about this before we went public with our relationship. We knew that people would use my position as not only your Executive Representative but as the General Manager as verbal ammo.”
“Well people keep bringing Kelli up and how can I be with a man who’s still married. Why is she here? Why can’t she leave me alone? I go over that all the time in my head because people keep bringing it up. I have been having issues sleeping because my mind can’t let it go.”
”I’m...I’m sorry, Asti. Why didn’t you tell me you couldn’t sleep behind all this? I had no idea.”
“You have bigger things do deal with than my insomnia. I’m just a hot mess.”
She downed the second double shot and shook her head a bit. Joshua signals for the waiter to bring another round.
“I get that Bill and Chris are #1 and #2… and honestly, they’ve not screwed up so they deserve your full attention.”
”Astrid Rona Sedin, you deserve my full attention. You should know by now you have my full attention. The biggest reason I brought Jake in was to handle Bill and Chris. So don’t dismiss me like that.”
“Then why? Why are you letting her be a part of this company? Why is she not getting punished for attacking me after the match yet I get a ridiculous fine for doing the same thing to Misty? Why… did you protect her that day?”
The tears began to well up in her eyes, causing them to begin to look glassy.
”There is nothing I can do about Kelli being a part of EHWF. She’s got a contract just like any other wrestler on the roster. And there is not punishing her for her attack. What she did was well in the scope of wrestling. As wrestlers, your contracts state that attacks that happen during the duration of a broadcast or house show is fully acceptable. The Misty attack was completely different because Misty was no longer under a wrestler’s contract but an executive one.”
He extends his hand to caress hers.
“I deserve to be more of an executive than she ever did. Misty Vega was nothing but a whiny little LOSER! I’ve showed her up so many times… Whatever… The moment that they make Oliver Black defend those titles against a real contender and not a joke, then I’ll maybe take the suspension. But I plan on appealing it.”
Exhaling heavily, Joshua looks into Astrid’s teary eyes.
”As your Executive Representative, Asti, I’m advising against that. I say take the punishment quietly, keep putting on top-notch wrestling matches, and then after a month get right back on track of winning single old. But as the General Manager, I will accept your appeal and decide accordingly.”
“I”m just waiting to hear back from a lawyer on whether or not I have a cause. He did say one thing that it does sound discriminatory. But he is going to investigate. And honestly, what I need from you is when we’re not at the arena… don’t tell me what I should do or not as either then general manager or my executive representative. Because you are neither the moment we walk out those doors.”
She took a long sip of the Blue Hawaiian, motioning over to waiter to bring her another. Joshua raised a puzzled eyebrow.
”It doesn’t actually work that way, Asti, especially not the Executive Representative role.”
“And they say I’m thick headed. You do realize that what I want… what I need from you right now is to stop giving me advice from the business aspect. Give me advice as my future husband… that and let me get drunk so I forget about today.”
Joshua, now with a slight smile on his face, sat back in his chair, admiring his future wife.
”Well...I...damn...I’m speechless.”
“For once…”
She took a long last sip of the drunk as she sat back in the chair. The waiter makes his way back over another round of drinks in hand. After placing them on the table, he makes himself scarce.
”I have to be honest, I’m not sure if I know how to do that, well the letting you get drunk part is easy, but not giving you advice as your Executive Representative is uncharted territory.”
“Looks like we’re both going into uncharted territory then.”
She starts to sip on the other drink.
”As long as we’re navigating it together then.”
“So then hit me with it. Give me what I need.”
She keeps swirling the straw around.
”I thought I was doing that during all of our late night conversations?”
He chuckled as he downed the last of his first drink.
“I knew you were going to say that. But you… know what I mean. Give me the advice.”
”Well I agree with your Executive Representative, Asti. Taking this one on the chin will probably be the best route. I’m sure the guy has something up his sleeve. I mean, have you seen how sharply dressed he is everyday?”
“Except that one day when he looked like a bum off the street… yeah. He is a man without a license who wants to buy a Maserati afterall.”
A slight chuckle escaped her lips.
“If you want me to keep quiet, I’m going to need some sort encouragement. And before you say anything… don’t get any sexual ideas.”
”Encouragement you say? That’s not sexual….yeah I’m at a loss. But for real, Asti, as your fiance I want you to do what you feel is best for your career. Sure you have an Executive Representative but he’s only there to advise you, not to decide for you. Whatever you decide to do, I have your back.”
“Honestly, you aren’t going to like what I want to do. Nobody will.”
He takes a long sip of his new drink.
”Do I really want or need to hear this?”
“I want to go for the Heavyweight Championship. That’s what I want. I’ve heard the things people have been saying and I want the vindication that would come from winning that belt.”
A Cheshire cat smile comes across Joshua’s face upon hearing her declaration.
”It’s about damn time!”
“But Bill isn’t going to like it… like I said nobody will. But that title is the ONLY one I care about. I don’t want the Showtime or Bad Blood… I want the only one that I deserve.”
Joshua holds up his glass to indicate a toast. Astrid reluctantly holds her glass up as well.
”Salud!”
He bangs back half the glass.
”You definitely deserve it, Asti. Sure Bill has a rightful claim to it since he has a pending rematch but bias aside, there is no other wrestler on Anarchy that deserves the chance at it.”
“And honestly, I want to prove to Oliver Black and the rest of those losers that I’m more than a pretty face. I want to prove to The Monstimals that I’m more than a skinny female who could eat an entire pizza and not gain a pound. And I want to prove to the world and myself that I can actually do it.”
”You should definitely go for it, baby.”
“And you can make that happen. Once Bill gets his rematch… I want the winner. Just, make sure it’s after the month is over.”
She sipped at her drink, her head feeling a little wooshy.
“Whew, that tequila is potent.”
”Uh, I’m just your future husband, remember? You’ll have to talk to your Executive Representative about all that.”
He drinks more of his cognac.
”You did want to get drunk…”
“Yeah I know, but I haven't had Patron for a while and I forgot how fast it can hit you. I'll have a talk with my rep tomorrow about that title thing.”
She smiled and winked at Samson.
”With that all out of the way can we really just kick back and enjoy the rest of the night?”
“Yeah… why not? Though… I might need your help getting back up to the room later.”
She giggled a little bit as she continued to sip at her drink.
”That, my dear, will not be a problem.
“Well do you want to keep drinking here… or do you want to head back up?”
”Let’s have a few more here before heading up.”
“GARCON! A round of shots here for me and this hottie!”
Joshua simply chuckles, sipping away at his drink and basking in the beauty of his over the top, most likely drunk, fiancee.
“She can be such a goddamn brat sometimes.”
