::: ::: ::: Moments after Mayhem... The Locker Room ::: ::: :::
I sat in the shared locker room. I had a towel resting on my lower half, I had just finished my shower. The cuts across my face and body stung, causing me some sort of strange pleasure. I laughed to myself and then looked up to the door...

If it had been his left eye, he wouldn't have seen it.
Had it been his left eye Brandon Bash gouged at, first with his fingers and then with the chainlink wall of the steel cage, he would've kept right on walking. Had it been his left eye that he couldn't see out of when he blindly Speared Silver Kazama, proceeding to leave the cage and head for the back afterward because, above all else, he could not deal with eye stuff, he would have, in all likelihood, made it all the way to the EHWF Champion's private locker room without incident. Had it been his left eye whose socket the doctors had filled with some kind of coagulant balm and covered with bandages, he would not have noticed the open locker room door coming up on his left side.
But it wasn't his left eye. It was his right. And so, on his way back from the medical examination room, the upper-right quadrant of his head completely encased in strips of bandage to hide and protect his still-bleeding eye, David Gideon Smith happened to glance through an open doorway, spot one of the objects of his newfound anger, and stop dead in his tracks.

<> I looked up, surprised to see David Gee Ess standing in the doorway. I looked at the ground and smirked. I then raised my head back up and tilted it towards the EHWF Champion, giving him permission to enter the room. <>
"Well, if it isn't the great flaker." I smirked. "That's twice I've beaten you now, under tag team circumstances. It makes me wonder, are you really that bad with people? I mean, I don't know one person on the roster who actually likes you. It's worrying."

David's teeth gnashed together behind his lips, but he set his jaw and composed himself, turning to stand in the doorway and narrowing his undamaged eye at Mercury.
David: I could care about being liked by my coworkers, but because those two tag-team victories you're so proud of are both due to neither Scott Wilson nor Silver Kazama being able to hold up their ends of the bargain, it shouldn't be hard to see why I don't. And at any rate...
He tilted his chin upward, staring down his nose at the boy.
David: ... given you were just knocked on your ass by a blind man, are you really in any position to talk shit right now?

<> I tried to keep my composure, I tried to refrain from laughing. I failed. I started laughing directly at the crippled champion.<>
"Oh dear." I chuckled, shaking my head. "Diddum's. Bless."
<> I smirked and then stood up, getting closer to David Gee Ess. I tightened my towel, making sure David Gee Ess didn't get too giddy. <>
"What a poor lad." I grinned. "Does it hurt?"

Now, as Mercury stood before him in an arrogant and ill-advised invasion of his personal space, it was David's turn to crack a smile. Peering down at the boy through the near half-foot difference in height between them, he folded his arms over his chest, drumming the fingers of his right hand against his left bicep.
David: I could tell you... or I could dig your eyes out of their sockets and show you. And considering you're smaller than I am, weaker than I am, less experienced than I am, and - apparently - rather anxious to keep that towel in place, I'd bet any attempt on your part to stop me wouldn't see much success. So I'll give you a choice, you juvenile, homophobic Miz-knockoff.
He leaned down, bringing his face to within inches of Mercury's, any hint of a smile long-gone.
David: Show... or tell?

<> I backed away slightly, smirking arrogantly. I dropped the towel, showing my baby maker. It was about normal size, perhaps a bit bigger. There was certainly no shame on my part, in fact, this was more exciting than the match earlier. <>
"There you go." I grinned, presenting my production unit. "Oh... did you mean the eye thing?"
<> I smirked, making it quite obvious that I was aware of what he meant. I pulled the towel back up and wrapped it around my waist once more.<>
"Well, I guess you can tell me." I grinned. "After all, we are already booked together next weekend... so, why get things started too soon?"

David felt a stab of anger in his gut, not only at the boy's arrogance and nonchalance, but at the light he was making of David's own injury - the third he had sustained since returning less than four months prior, and without a doubt the most grievous. When he spoke next, his words came out as a eerily calm snarl issued through clenched teeth.
David: I do not like to have my eyes touched. And as for next week... you let Bash know that that it doesn't matter what plans he has for Kazama, or what plans he has for Ryder, or what plans either of them have for him. At Aces High he is mine, and when I get my hands on him...
He stopped short, pondering his next words. After a moment he straightened back up, resuming his height over Mercury, and composed himself.
David: The phrase "an eye for an eye" should suffice.

<>I grinned. I then reached over my neck with my right hand and scratched my back. I sat back down on the bench and patted the place next to me.<>
"Sit down, Gee Ess." I smiled, looking down at the empty space.
<>David just looked at the space, he didn't seem to care for my company, at least not then.<>
"No?" I smirked. "Well that's fine. Just stay there, acting big and macho. Just stand there acting like you don't care. So yeah, uh, Brandon Bash and eye balls. Hmmm. Interesting. Anything else big man?"

David matched Mercury's smirk with a stonefaced expression, good eye regarding him with something between contempt and antipathy. As his anger subsided, he began to see this young man, this newcomer, Ryan Mercury, for what he really was - someone not worth getting angry over.
David: Yes. I know what you think of me - you've left nothing to the imagination in that regard - but do not, under any circumstances, assume I'm acting. The last man to make that assumption... the last several men to make that assumption... ended up in the hospital.
He left it at that. Not giving Mercury time to respond, not even bothering to wait and gauge the boy's reaction, David turned from the doorway and continued down the hall.
